Learning Journey
Minibeasts
Our topic focus this half term has been Minibeasts. We have been observing the changes that occur in a butterfly’s lifecycle, learning all about Minibeasts and their features and we had a visit from ZooLab. The children had the opportunity to hold a Corn Snake, Giant African Millipede and Giant African Snake.
Number
This half term we’ve been learning about number, each week we focused on a different number (0-5). We completed number hunts around the round, counted objects, matched numeral and quantity and used Numberblocks to support our learning.
Road Safety
In May, we had our Road Safety week. We talked about always holding an adult’s hand when walking near or crossing a road and practised practically on our playground. The children enjoyed completed lots of different activities within the continuous provision.
Celebrations
This half term we’ve celebrated lots of different celebrations, including Mother’s Day, Eid ul-fitr and Easter. We planted bulbs and decorated plant pots a part of our mother day gifts. For Eid, Mrs Rehman shared her experiences, along with tasting some traditional food and the children practised the pencil control to make Mehndi patterns. For Easter we’ve made Easter egg nests, Easter cards and enjoyed an Easter disco!
Stories we've been reading
We’ve been reading lots of lovely stories and based our learning around them. On world book day we enjoyed traditional stories such as Goldilocks and the three bears, The 3 little pigs and decorated a gingerbread person, from the story of The Gingerbread man. We’ve also enjoyed reading stories such as ‘What the ladybird heard’, ‘Giraffe’s can’t Dance’ and ‘Shark in the park’.
Shape
This half term we’ve been learning about 2D shape. We’ve enjoyed drawing, creating art and spotting these shapes around the classroom.
Lost and Found
One of our story focuses this half term has been Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We’ve enjoyed retelling the story along with learning about Antarctica, and Penguins through our continuous provision activities.
Winter
This half term we’ve been learning about the season of winter. We’ve created art, explored ice, been on a Winter Walk and thought about the clothes we need to wear, to keep warm.
Christmas
We've had a busy December in Nursery. It started with our Nativity performance, followed by lots of exciting crafts and activities in our continuous provision and finished with our final week visiting the winter wonderland and a Christmas party on Friday!
Colour
This term we've been learning about colour and using it to help with our speaking. Each week we focused on a different colour, the children brought things in from home, along with finding objects around the classroom. We've enjoyed lots of different colour games and activities, including colour mixing with our hands!
Autumn Celebrations
We’ve enjoyed lots of celebrations this term. We started with Harvest, where we made bread, created a salt dough display and printed with vegetables. Followed by Diwali ‘the festival of light’, we enjoyed creating lanterns and Rangoli patterns using different media. For Bonfire night, we made our own edible sparklers and learned all about firework and sparkler safety. Finally, we celebrated remembrance, discussing what the poppy symbolises and made some lovely art work!
Autumn learning
We've enjoyed learning about Autumn this half term in Nursery. Here are a few photos of what we've been up to!
Settling in
During our first few weeks at Mount Pleasant Nursery, we have explored our classroom, school and the outside areas, including forest school. We've have taken part in lots of different activities and learnt some new routines.
Summer Fun Day
We've had lots of fun for our Summer fun day at the end of term, followed by a delicious ice pop to cool us down!
Learning in Summer 2
This half term we've covered lots of different topics, ranging from our world and the story of Handa's Surprise to handwashing and planting. We've also tried to make the most of the weather and get outside!
Lifecycles
We've been learning about and exploring the lifecycle of a Frog and a Butterfly this term. We've enjoyed watching each stage and learning new vocabulary.
Farm Visit
We enjoyed a visit from Emily’s Mini Farm. We saw lots of different animals including ‘Barbie’ the Sheep and ‘Ant’ and ‘Dec’ the goats. We had the opportunity to hold and stroke a tortoise, rabbit and chick. We then headed across to the field for lots of fun and a picnic lunch. We finished our day with an ice cream, yummy!
